GYC MOBILE PARLIAMENT TAKES PARLIAMENTARY ENGAGEMENT TO THE GRASSROOTS, COMMENCES COMMUNITY CONSULTATION TOUR

In what signals a renewed and deliberate shift towards grassroots-oriented youth governance, the Gbaramatu Youth Council (GYC) Mobile Parliament commenced a strategic Grassroots Leadership Engagement and Community Consultation Tour across communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom on the 7th of August 2026.

The Leadership body includes the Speaker: RT. Hon. Doubra J. Timiyan , Clerk: Ubebe B. Kester Denyefa, Hon. Christian Okito, Hon. Ebimiesinde Samuel, Hon. Okoritse Stanley, Hon. Maxwell Obey Douglas, Hon. Mieyenteigha Destiny, Hon. Ubebe Arerepade and Hon. Franklyn Ikpidi

The initiative represents a significant step in the Parliament’s broader effort to reposition youth leadership as a more participatory, responsive and community-driven institution, while strengthening the relationship between the Council and the various youth leadership structures operating across the Kingdom.

Rather than limiting parliamentary engagement to formal sittings and institutional meetings, the Mobile Parliament took its consultative mandate directly to the communities, creating a platform for meaningful interaction with youth presidents, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders.

The engagement, designed to provide the Parliament with first-hand insight into the realities confronting youths across the communities, while simultaneously giving grassroots leadership a direct channel through which their concerns, aspirations, priorities and development needs can enter the broader youth leadership conversation.

FIRST PHASE: TAKING PARLIAMENTARY ENGAGEMENT TO THE COMMUNITIES

The first phase of the Grassroots Leadership Engagement and Community Consultation Tour has seen the GYC Mobile Parliament extend its parliamentary outreach to Kurutie, Kunukunuma, Oporoza, Zou-ala Iba (zaghala), Opuedebubor and Benikrukru.

The engagements across these communities represent an important component of the Parliament’s grassroots oversight and consultative responsibility, providing an opportunity for direct interaction with community youth leadership and for the Parliament to gain a clearer understanding of local realities, emerging concerns and development priorities.

Through these engagements, the Mobile Parliament has continued to strengthen communication between the central youth leadership structure and community-level administrations, while encouraging a more inclusive approach to identifying and addressing issues affecting young people across Gbaramatu Kingdom.

The first phase, therefore not being viewed as an isolated outreach exercise, but as the foundation of a broader and continuing parliamentary engagement framework designed to bring representation closer to the people.

SECOND PHASE TO COMMENCE SUBSEQUENTLY

Building on the experiences, observations and outcomes of the first phase, the second phase of the Community Consultation Tour will commence subsequently, extending the Parliament’s grassroots engagement to additional communities across Gbaramatu Kingdom.

The subsequent phase is expected to further broaden the reach of the initiative, deepen engagement with community youth administrations and provide additional opportunities for the Parliament to listen, consult and document issues emerging from the grassroots.

The phased approach reflects a deliberate strategy to ensure that parliamentary engagement is comprehensive, sustained and sufficiently responsive to the diverse realities of communities across the Kingdom.
